Here at The Knotty Dog, we first and foremost always have your pets best interest in mind! We want to make sure that we are providing every bit of care on every level that we possibly can. We take the same precaution with your pet as we do with the pet before your pet and after your pet. With this in mind, we would like to remind everybody that sometimes it does take longer at the salon for your pet. We cannot give you a definite time that your pet will be done unless prior arrangements have been made. We try our best to finish your pet as quickly as possible, but please remember we are working with very sharp tools, moving objects, and most importantly your pet! Saftey is our number one concern while grooming any pet here at The Knotty Dog, so please understand that certain pets will take longer then others and we will try our best to be as punctual and proficiant as possible. Pets unlike humans are unpredictable, therefore we have many unexpected events in the salon. We need to clean up after the pets, answer the phone, check pets in and out, talk with clients about their pets and any changes, and sanitize before and after each pet. Please be considerate in remembering this.
Fleas
The Knotty Dog does have a NO fleas policy to protect the pets and an infestation at our facility. Therefore if your pet has fleas there is NOT an option to have your pet placed immediately in the tub for a flea bath.
In order to keep a flea-free facility, we "WILL" treat any pet that enters our salon accordingly and immediately if they have pests. You will be charged a $10 fee. Treatment is NOT a long term prevention and should be followed by the clients preferred oral or topical treatment.
De-Matting
Here at The Knotty Dog, we groom humanely. We will ATTEMPT to de-mat a pets coat if we feel that the pet will not suffer pain from the de-matting. If we feel the best interest for your pet would be to shave off the matted coat then thats what we will do to prevent unnecessary suffering to the pet from the matted coat. PLEASE NOTE: Our normal grooming charge does NOT include de-matting, and all de-matting will be an extra charge. Please talk to one of the Stylists to discuss your pets de-mattting. We will be more then happy to educate any client on the care needed for their pets coat.
When a pet is presented to us in severely matted condition, it is our policy at The Knotty Dog to shave the coat off if we feel thats the best for the pet. To de-matt would cause the pet tremendous stress and discomfort, often leaving a very thinned and damaged coat, therefore shaving the coat is best when the matting is at this severity.
A Severely Matted Dog Can Suffer Many Conditions
*Hotspots and Sores *Severe Itching *Possibly Hematomas *Yeast Infections *Eye and Ear Infections *Moist Eczema *Mites and Lice *Fungal and Bacterial Infections *Urine and Feces Scalding *Flea Infestation
We do not ever know what is going to be under the matting. Oncce the coat is removed, the skin can be red due to the lack of air circulation and the dirt that has accumulated underneath. Occasionally there are sores or infection, this may need Vet attention. Dogs tend to scratch and rub their skin after shaving - this is normal, however some can over scratch and this may lead to other issues. Please speak with your vet. If we feel your dog is at any kind of health risk, we will again put the pets best interest first and we will seek Vet attention for your pet at the owners expense.
